Raphael: a French 32-year old software wizzard and sunday afternoon car mechanic and fan of Allo Allo!
Kyle: a Dutch 22-year old design&business student who loves adventure and adrenaline but secretly is a huge administrative nerd!
Betsie: a 900€ 1993 Daihatsu Feroza with personality issues and a certain inclination for rust.
THE STORY
We met each other at the Student Glider Club of the Technical University of Eindhoven and shared our love for flying and common dream of a long overland trip.
In 2014 Kyle's mother was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer (non hodgkins). This took the entire family by surprise as it does in many cases. His mother was one of the fittest women out there but this changed rapidly due to her treatment. After many months of fighting she overcame the disease and has now been cancer-free for just over a year now!
During the entire ordeal Kyle was living and studying full time at the Technical University in Eindhoven, which is about 2.5 hours travel from his mother. Being far away left him feeling helpless and unable to make a difference.
Now the opportunity has come for us to take part in the challenge and help Lymph&Co raise money for their research program while making our dream come true.
THE CAUSE
Lymphoma cancer is one of the lesser-known types of cancer but it affects a lot of people. Lymphoma cancer hits 1 in 50 people resulting in 4000 new cases and subsequently 1000 deaths per year in The Netherlands alone. The Lymphoma problem is growing and before Lymph&Co there was no dedicated fund actively raising money to fight this disease.
Lymph&Co is working to raise €500.000 to start a 4-year research program at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.
At time of writing €450.000 have been raised and we would like to help with raising some of the remaining €50.000!
TARGET
We have set our sponsoring rate at €0.25 per kilometre (€1 = 4 km), meaning that if all our kilometers are sponsored we will have raised €5.000!!!
